We want to share all your mental health stories and advice

“What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, and more unashamed conversation.”

Glenn Close

Hello, Elizabeth here! Welcome to Clear Yo Mind, a publication on Medium where people can publish their stories and feelings about mental health and wellbeing, personal growth and development, and general life lessons.

At Clear Yo Mind, we are not looking for perfection. Write, just the way you are. Nobody is perfect, and we do not expect you to be.

We ask that you write about something that relates to mental health, and has clear actionable takeaways for the reader. This article is a good example:

5 Things Neuroscientists Recommend That Will Improve Your Mental Health

There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.

We know that a lot of Medium publications reject new writers — we welcome you with open arms.

We also know that you may have a story that needs a home but is not necessarily about mental health. We understand that all aspects of life somehow affect our mental health — so if your story can somehow support that angle, we will publish it.

We will continuously give feedback to help you improve your writing for the Medium platform, and increase your chances of getting your stories curated.

I know most publication owners ask their writers to follow them before they can add them to their publications. I do not. Only follow me if you want to. I mostly write about love and relationships as sampled in this list.

At Clear Yo Mind, We Like To Publish:

  1. Mental Health
  2. Personal Growth and Development
  3. Life Lessons
  4. Life
  5. Bonus: Love and Relationships — because they affect the state of our mental health so strongly.

We welcome personal stories with lessons for the reader. We welcome self-improvement, motivational articles, psychology, mental health, mental illness, mental wellness, hacks for better mental health, life lessons, parenting, dating advice, love, relationships, etc.

Our major asks

  1. Please follow the publication before requesting to be added as a writer.
  2. The reader should always be able to learn something from your article.

Your writing style can be in the form of advice, personal experience, tips, interview, opinion, review, even listicles (but please still add personal touch/your point of view, so it feels more special).

The most successful tags in our publication are mental health, psychology, mindfulness, self, Clear Yo Mind, and mental health awareness.

Our humble request regarding claps

You are a writer on Medium. So, you know how much effort goes into writing an article you feel is worth publishing. It is very disheartening finding that your article has 10 fans, for example, and it has 10 claps to match.

That would be just one clap per person.

We request that when you clap articles in the publication, please give them the maximum of 50 claps. Please. You do not lose anything.

And if all of us in the publication are giving each other the maximum 50 claps each time we clap, 10 fans would mean 500 claps. Wow! It is a better number than 10 claps.

One thing I can assure you of is at least 50 claps because I am always cheering you on in my loudest virtual voice! 🙂 Keep writing and sharing your stories. Your message is exactly what someone needs at this moment.

We Do Not Publish

Anything that would not pass the Medium rules here.

Become a Clear Yo Mind Publication Writer

There are two ways.

  1. Follow the publication and then comment on this article and indicate your username e.g. Please add me @ekasujja.  This is the faster way. We have limited resources and it is easier to just add you after a Medium comment rather than an email. Although we promise to get to it as soon as possible.
  2. Send an email to clearyomind@gmail.com indicating your name, and a link to your Medium profile e.g. Elizabeth Karls, ekasujja.medium.com ← This is the slower method. If possible, use method 1. And as soon as you are added, you can them submit your draft or your story for publication.

You may include the draft link you want us to review for publication.

We will add you within the week. That is the stretch. Most times we add you within a day or two. 🙂

We encourage you to submit AT LEAST one article per week. The best way to grow your audience and become a better writer is to actually write and put your work out there.

Now That You Are Our Writer, What Next?

If you’ve been accepted as a writer for Clear Yo Mind, your next step is to submit your article.

You may find out all about that here.

Please Introduce Yourself

Here is an example post I made to introduce myself.

The 9 Articles You Should Read If You Want To See My Best Work

You may adopt the format and update it to have your own details. Or you can create something entirely different — that is up to you.

When you submit that introduction post to the publication, add “About Me” as a tag, and it will automatically also be captured in the About Our Writers tab in the navigation bar.

How Do We Get More Readers To Your Work?

To give your work more publicity after we publish it on Medium, we will also share it with our communities on other platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Website, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. We will also include the link to your article in our weekly newsletter.

Please Take Note Of The Following Key Points

1. We will publish up to 5 new stories a day.

We will publish stories as they come in every day and add the latest additions to the publication to the top of the homepage so that every story gets a chance to be seen, and every story gets the attention it deserves.

If you have submitted a story that had already been published, please note that more recently written stories would then appear on top of your story after a while.

2. We will not publish self-promotional material.

It’s OK to include a link to your newsletter at the end of your piece, but the piece must be able to stand alone in the publication. If your story has a self-promotion vibe, we will not be able to include it in the publication.

3. All articles must feature attributed imagery.

We love photos and encourage you to use them in your writing. All stories need to featured image that is fair use with attribution. To properly attribute a photo, you have to make sure you have the rights to a photo.

You can get beautiful copyright-free images from various sites such as UnsplashPexelsPixabay. Ensure that you credit them correctly (as shown below)

4. All articles must be proofread, edited, and formatted correctly.

Using readily available free tools like spellcheck and Grammarly, it should be easy to check your work for grammar missteps, spelling mistakes, and typos. We also ask that you use Medium’s style tools to format your piece with web and mobile readers, for example, no excessively long blocks of unbroken text.

5. We think you are special!

That is why we accepted you as a writer for our publication! Stay awesome.

We can’t wait to read and publish your next article!
